What’s new
Gan Izzy woke in the morning (well, late morning) to a shining son. Campers then made do not disturb signs- meant to be for the parents, but some campers wanted to keep it for themselves. After lunch we mini golfed. Rice crispy hunt, capture the counselor, post cards home, and a few shoe games. Toe paint pictionary (what’s that?!). As evening descended, the campers pitched tents, made a fire and slept outside (well, when going to print I don’t see anyone sleeping, but that’s being optimistic)

Simon and Binyamin and yossi tried to dig to china , Sally was amazingly talented at Mini golf, Elinore guessed the animal sound, Anne guessed the sevivon, Tal won the shoe game, Caroline headed to the beach (next time ask permission!). How camp ticks - the newsroom
An important part of every society, is the free movement of information, the media. Gan Izzy Nyt, although a new publication (20 gan izzys were able to survive without it) has become a central institution in the gan izzy society, shaping opinion, forming trends, and bringing to the forefront of society subjects of interest and concern.
We bring you the process of creating a Gan Izzy Nyt.
It starts with a meeting of the executive editorial board (1 person) who starts up the computer, and searches for ideas of what to write about. There is a brainstorming session (consisting of asking chanchi what she thinks – she usually has the same reply; Canteen) and then finally writing the articles. The pictures are emailed in by our worldwide leadership, and after translation (usually started by mushkie, and then finished at about 1 am by bat el, Debbie and Nina), the presses are ready to start rolling. In the olden days (last week) the local library was used to print out the paper. In modern times (this week) a highly sophisticated color printing press on camp grounds is used. At this point trucks arrive to distribute it to all the many locations where there is demand for it. (Well at least each seat at the GI lunch table). At this point the cycle is ready to start again.

My gosh, I don’t know these sort of things, (Chaya then added the highly scientific – but little known - reason that ‘there’s a large wall of liquorice surrounding Australia that prevents people falling off.)

Nyheder
I fredags tog Gan Izzy hen på galopbanen. En lokal kilde ved banen fortæller at der ikke har været så meget gang i stedet før. Hestene nr 3 og 7 havde en fordel i og med at Gan Izzyerne heppede på dem. Efter at havde fået kigget det lokale mini-loppemarked igenennem, underholdt karussel-manageren, redet på ponnyer og fået ansigtsmaling, tog vi tilbage på lejren for at gøre den, og os selv, klar til shabbat. Avivas chamin, eller cholent, blev serveret i på flere forskellige måder flere gange iløbet af shabbaten. En gåtur, uendelige sjove og crazy lege, Shabbat fest en et besøg til den lokale park og den kendte shissel game, var programmet over shabbat.
Erhvervs nyheder
Udgivelsen af den nye avis, Gan Izzy Nyt (nu fjerde udgave), har vagt stor bekymring hos det lokale avis-kompagni. Faktisk forsøger en af de konkurende aviser, Skånske Dagbladet, at få mange af deres læsere tilbage som de har mistet siden udgivelsen af Gan Izzy Nyt og har valgt at bruge urimelige metoder. De planlagde propaganda hold, der klædte sig ud som rapportere, da Gan Izzy kom på besøg på galopbanen. De interviewede også Rochel, og håbede på at det ville vinde popularitet hos Gan Izzy Nyt’s læsere. En anden taktik de ville bruge for at få gang i salget, var at dele helium balloner ud til uskyldige børn, for at spræde reklame hos Gan Izzy. GIN (Gan Izzy Nyt) har stadig flere danske og engelske læsere.
hvordan lejren fungerer – køkkenet
I et forsøg på at hjælpe vores læsere med at forstå hvordan lejren er kører, brugte vores journalist noget tid I køkkenet for at observere hvordan det sker...
For at holde sin annonymitet, gik rapporteren under jorden, ved at klæde sig ud som kartoffel-pose. Det var ret effektivt indtil Aviva skulle bruge flere kartofler til chamin, som var grunden til vores rapporter måtte flygte fra køkkenet.
Rapportering direkte: Køkkenet er for alvor lejrens nervecenter. Mens jeg observerer, ruller Mussya rouglach fra en speciel hemmelig familie-opskrift, og Aviva er igang med at lægge sidste hånd på Shabbat maden. Dette består af at placere fire (ja fire) kyllinger I chamin (kyllingerne var gudskelov ikke i live mere), nok bønner til at sænke et krigsskib og nogle få (hundrede) æg. Den ringende telefon hører med til begejstringen, det gør også de børn der vandre rundt i deres søgen på mad til tankerne – eller endnu bedre mad til maven. Chanchi vandrer rundt sin søgen efter sin mor, Rochel, og et minut senere kommer Rochel i sin søgen på Chanchi. Et barn vil have noget mayonnaise, og bliver fortalt venligt (ok, ikke så venligt) at restaurenten er lukket. Aviva leder nu efter flere kartofler, så jeg tror mit gemmested bliver afsløret, nu kommer hun, jeg smutter.....

Eftersom min mor nok læser det her bliver jeg jo nok nødt til at sige at mors mad er det bedste! Men Aviva’s mad er også god.

What’s New?
On Friday, Gan Izzy headed to the horse races. A local source at the races reports, that so much excitement has never been seen at the horse races. The horses 3 and 7 had an unfair advantage due to them being cheered on by the Gan Izziates. After perusing the local loppemarked, we headed back to prepare for Shabbat. Avivas chamin, or chlont, was served a number of times during Shabbat in different constellations. A visit to the local park plus the famous shisel game, made up Shabbat in Gan Izzy 07!
Business news
The emergence of the new newspaper, Gan Izzy Nyt, now on its fourth edition, has caused great concern in the local newspaper business. In fact, one competing newspaper, the Skanske Dagbladet, in an attempt to gain back some of the many readers it has lost since the emergence of the Gan Izzy Nyt, has elected to use underhanded and devious recruiting methods. They planted a propaganda team, disguised as reporters, when Gan Izzy came to visit the horse races. They also interviewed Rochel, hoping that would win them some popularity with the Gan Izzy Nyt readers. Another tactic to help boost sales, was distributing helium balloons to unsuspecting children, thereby having balloon advertisements in Gan Izzy. Despite the aggressive methods, and an edge with the number of Swedish readers, GIN (Gan Izzy Nyt) still has a higher number of Danish and English readers
How the camp ticks - the kitchen
In an attempt to help our readers understand how camp ticks, we had our reporter spend some time in the kitchen, observing how it happens.
In order to maintain annomouity, the reporter went undercover, disguised as a bag of potatoes. This was quite effective, until aviva needed more potatoes for the chamin, at which point our reporter had to escape the kitchen.
Reporting live: the kitchen is definitely the nervecenter of camp. As I observe, moussia is rolling rouglach, from a special secret family recipe, whilst Aviva is putting the finishing touches on the Shabbat food. This consists of placing four (yes four) chickens in to the chamin (the chickens were not alive anymore-thank g-d) enough beans to sink a small battleship, and a few (hundred) eggs. The ringing phone adds to the excitement, as does wondering children, looking for some food for thought – or more likely food for mouth. Chanchi wonders in looking for her mother Rochel, and a minute later Rochel comes in looking for Chanchi. One child wants some mayonnaise, and is told politely (ok, not so politely) that the restaurant is closed. Aviva is now searching for more potatos, so I think my cover might be blown, here she comes, gotta go…..

Hvad nyt?
Gan Izzy rocker og ruller. Faktum er, at efter at havde opdaget hvordan man tilslutter en Ipod til højtalerne, rocker lejren med højt musik hele dagen. Andet der er sket i løbet af dagen er; memory med de 7 skabelsesdage, torah jagt, lavede græs hoveder, spillede stikbold, legede bondegård og en meget våde tur for at se de heltmodige redningsfolk fiske én op af vandet – også selvom en anonym deltager klogt pegede ud at hvis fyren er skør nok til at hoppe i vandet, burde han selv finde vejen op igen.

Rivka vandt memory-spillet, Anna allerede kendte alle 7 skabelsesdage, Simon og Benjamin hamrede løs på deres kunst-projekt, Maya, Shira og Micheala hjalp med at lave glasur, Chavas ansigt var smurgt helt ind i chokolade, Elinora elskede lasagnen, Sally’s tand er ved at falde ud, Mushky svarede først på ”dagens spørgsmål”.

Analyse af vejret – af meterologi afdelingen på Gan Izzy
Hele torsdagen var vejret perfekt. Altså, hvis man kan lide vand. Derfor er fisk, frøer og ænder ekstra glade under dissse vejrforhold. Uheldigvis, (eller heldigvis, det kommer nok an på, hvordan man ser på det) er næsten alle lejr-deltagere mennesker. Det fortsættende sillende regnvejr gjorde at Gan Izzy holdt sig indedørs det meste af dagen, selvfølgelig med mange sjove aktiviteter. Regnvejr kan dog bruges til én nyttig aktivitet; ansigtsmaling. Mudder er der meget af og er godt som sort, når det mangler.

What’s New?
Gan Izzy has been rocking and rolling. In fact with the discovery of a way of getting the Ipod to connect to the speakers, it’s been rocking with loud music ever since. Other stuff that happened over the day is, Match it with days of creation, torah hunt, Grass heads, elimination, animal farm and of course the great trip to watch the brave rescuers fish someone out of the water – although an anonymous camper sagely pointed out that if the fellow is silly enough to jump in, he should have to find his own way out.
Who remembers when?

The weather analysis - by the metrological department of Gan Izzy
Thursday has been absolutely beautiful weather, if you like water. Therefore, frogs, fish and ducks are highly excited with this type of weather. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, I guess it depends how one looks at it) almost all of camps participants are human beings, and the ratio of humans to frogs etc is 1/0. As such, the continuing pouring rain, kept Gan Izzy indoors for large parts of the day, with lots of great activities. One useful activity which was found for the rain was that the rain is very good for face painting; no need to go looking for black paint, the mud is abundant and plentiful.

Torsdag dag 4 på lejren, 07 nr 2

Svømmebassin dramaet fortsætter
Det internationale Gan Izzys krise-team holdt (DIGIKT) endnu et møde (møde nr 4). Efter meget snak blev det beluttet at flytte bassinet til et mere stabilt sted. Dette blev gjort med stor viljestyrke af 3 medlemmer (inklusiv direktøren!) og med meget vejledning og kritik af de mange nysgerrige tilskuere. Så blev bassinet endelig igang med at blive fyldt med varmt vand, hvilket er grunden til at vandet i badet var koldt efter sejlturen...oops!. Også selvom der kun er ca 20 cm vand i øjeblikket. Hölvikken Guldfisk foreningen (HGF) har forhandlet med DIGIKT om at låne bassinet, så fiskene kan svømme I rolige omgivelser. Pålidelige kilder fortæller dog at dette nok ikke er en god idé, da der er blevet set børn med fiskegrej kigge med ivrige øjne efter fisk at fange.

Hvorfor tror du at du har fået navnet Bat-El?
Fordi jeg var en fantastisk baby. Havde jeg været dreng ville jeg havde heddet David.
Hvorfor synes du at Danmark er bedre end Sverige?
Jeg kan forstå sproget I Danmark, men udover det kan jeg også lide Sverige. – bare ikke buschauffører (Bat-El havde en episode med en buschauffør på linje 100, som endte med at en talsmand fra bus-selvskabet undskyldte og gav pengene tilbage).
Bat-El, Du har været på mange lejre, hvad synes du om denne?
Jeg kan lide Gan Izzy ånden, det er hyggeligt. Jeg kan lide menneskene, især Debbie (bagefter sagde hun at det ikke er pænt at sige man kan lide en mere end de andre, men vi lader det stå alligevel).
Hvad er dine yndlings lejrsange?
“After the meal on Friday night – shlomele”, “Aint gonna work on Saturday”, Frø-sangen (især den gamle duet version med Adam og Chaim)

Hvem husker da…
Vi legede huggebear, tegnede på hinandens hjerter, lavede puder, sejlede, drak kakao og lavede et fedt talent show.
Maya byggede et sandslot.Yedidya samlede skaller på stranden, Shira og Michealle klædte sig ud som tvillinger. Sally faldt af stolen af glæde under talentshowet. Chava og Anna legede med I kompliment-legen. Mushky legede med i live-”hvem er hvem”-spillet. Og Michelle fik publikum til at måbe da hun viste sig frem som tryllekunstner under talentshowet.
Gan Israel ved stranden.
Efter at havde set ubåden i museet dagen forinden, blev lejren inspireret til at besøge vandet. Gummibåden (iført motor) sejlede på bølgerne mens næsten alle fik et lækkert saltet bad. Alle fik flere turer med båden og selvom fiskene blev skræmt væk – desværre for Eliyahu som ville fiske, var det en succesfuld eftermiddag.

Thursday day 4 of camp 07 – Issue 2
Swimming pool saga –continued.
The international conference of the Gan Izzy swimming pool crisis team (ICGISPCT) met today for the 4th time. After much deliberation, it was decided to move the pool to another, more stable location. This was done with great effort, by 3 members (including the CEO!) and with much coaxing, advice and criticism from curious onlookers. As of going to press, the pool has begun to be filled by hot water (that’s the reason the showers were cold after boating….) and there is about two inches of water. The holleviken goldfish association (HGA) has entered negotiations with ICGISPCT as to the possibility of loaning the swimming pool so the fish can swim in peace and quiet. An informed source tells us, however, that this is not necessarily a good idea, as campers armed with fishing rods, were seen peering eagerly into the water to see if there were any “small fry” to be caught.

Why do u think you were given the name Bat El?
Because I was a wonderful baby. I know if I would have been a by they would have called me David.
Why do u think Denmark is better then Sweden?
I can understand the language in Denmark, but otherwise I like Sweden too, though not the bus drivers (bat el had a well documented – it was reported in the evening news- run in with the bus driver of line 100, it ended with a spokesman for the bus company apologizing and returning the money)
Bat el, u have been to many gan izzys, what do u like so much about camp?
I like the spirit of gan izzy, it is hyggeligt. I like the people, especially Debby (she then said it’s not so nice to like one more then the other, but well leave it in anyway)
What’s your favorite camp song?
After the meal on Friday night – shlomele. And aint gone work on Saturday, and the frog song.

After visiting the museum with a submarine, gan Izzy was inspired to try its hand at some of its own boating. The rubber motor boat, sailed merrily over the waves, as almost everyone in the boat got a nice salty shower. Everyone got a couple of turns, and besides for scaring away the fish, as eliyahu discovered they were gone, a great afternoon was had by all

Gan Israel starter med et stort brag
De syngende Gan Izzy børn ødelagde hurtigt stilheden i den lille svenske by Hölvikken. Mens børnene var på vej fra Jylland, København, Lund og Goteborg, gjorde lederne klar til invationen af de glædelystne børn. Selvom indbyggerne i Hölvikken har haft mange forskellige jødiske grupper på besøg, var de ikke klar til at møde den specielle Gan Izzy ånd.
Trods poolen så ud til at være fuld til randen, var den det ikke.Efter internationale forskere og ingeniører kiggede på sagen, opdagede man at bassinet tippede på en lille skråning. Og at vandet –trods alle gode ønsker – ikke ville stå stille i bassinet, men flød over. Denne fysiske faktor var åbenbart ukendt for vandpåfylderen af bassinet.
Et krise-møde blev holdt, og beslutningen blev taget af bestyrrelsen af krise-teamet (Adam (direktøren), Eliyahu, yonatan og Yitzi), denne var at tømme bassinet, fllytte det og fylde det igen.
Mange foreslag kom frem under mødet om hvordan bassinet kunne tømmes. Adam foreslog at bruge en elefant, mens Eliyahu troede på at det kunne gøres med spande. Til slut blev et meget kompliceret system, bestående af tre mennesker, tre vandslanger, en pumpe, en stige og en ”tagrande” (lad være med at spørge hvorfor, eller hvordan, men det er rigtigt!) taget i brug.
Byen Malmö (jep, det er en rigtig by med postnummer og det hele) blev besøgt af en vild gruppe børn, som alle var smittet med Gan Izzy ånden. På museet var der mange aktiviteter for børnene; Maya og Chana prøvede som dansende musikere, Tal og Esther besøgte ubåden. Benjamin og Simon tog motorcyklen tilbage til lejren, men da motorcyklen insisterede på at blive på museet, kom de ikke længere.Rivkah så bådens indvendige hemmeligheder. Shira, Michaella and Sally prøvede
at sejle tilbage til lejren på en tømmerflåde. Caroline og Michelle gik frygtløs på opdagelse. Yedidya og Yossi, eksperimenterede med den flyvende bold, mens Chavale rejste med en båd tilbage I tiden. Det lykkedes for Mushky at få et lift tilbage til lejren og alle kom hjem med et smil på læben.
Vi var ude og svømme i bassinet (det var vådt). Lavede halskæder og nøgleringe med vores jødiske navn. Ledte efter bønner og lavede collager af dem.Yay, en fødselsdagsfest for os. Vi bagte kage og holdt en stor fødselsdagsfest med masser af lege. Vi gik i gang med tzivot hashem bøgerne og begyndte på vores kunst-projekt. Prøvede lidt skuespil og krydrede vores jødiske identitet med masser af aktiviteter.
Jeg er fra Montreal (canada), har været i Israel det sidste år og er utrolig glad for at være på Gan Israel.

The quiet in the small Swedish town of holleviken was loudly shattered by the gan izzy camp that opened in its midst. As campers arrived from Copenhagen, Jylland, Lund Gotoborg and other places, the locals were busy preparing for this invasion of quiet. Despite having had different Jewish groups in holleviken hus before, the full spirit of gan izzy has not met this town before.
The swimming pool, despite being full almost to the brim, was for some reason not totally full. After bringing international investigators and engineers, it was determined that the pool was placed on a slight hill. Water, it was discovered after extensive testing, will not – despite all good wishes to the contrary- stay still when on a slant, and will flow downwards. This fact of physics was somewhat unknown to the filler of the pool. An emergency meeting was held and the decision was taken by the crisis team (consisting of Adam (the CEO) Eliyahu, Yonoton and Yitzi) and a decision was taken too empty and refill the pool. Numerous ways of emptying g the pool were suggested. Adam suggested bringing an elephant, Eliyahu thought buckets would do it, in the end a complicated engineering feat consisting of a pump and 3 hoses, plus a drainpipe and a ladder (don’t ask how, but its true) were used to empty the water.
The city (yep, it’s a real city, with a postcode and all) of malmo was visited by a rowdy group of youngsters, bringing the gan izzy spirit to the town. The Museum had kids doing lots of activities. Maya and Chana tried there hand as dancing musicians. Tal and esther were submariners. Benjamin and Simon tried motorcycling back to camp, but the bike was stuck fast. Rivkah visited the inside of the boat. Shira Michaella and Sally tried sailing back to camp on the raft. Caroline and Michelle were intrepid explorers. Yedidya and Yossi, experimented with the flying balls, while chavala drove the boat back into history. Mushky managed to hitch a ride to camp back to car, and a great time was had by all.
We went swimming, and the water was wet. Made necklaces with our Jewish names. Hunted for beans and drew a picture with them, Yay, a birthday party for us. We baked cake and cookies. Tzivos hashem started up. Started the arts and craft project. Tried our hand at acting. And spiked up our jewish identity with lots of activities.
